Hello, Spring!

Ok so today we're back to drizzle and grey but yesterday the sun shone so of course I went outside. My mission: Easter.

Disorganised as always (but also in love with a themed display), I decided to visit some fancy foodcourts to see what Easter treats they had on offer. General consensus? Very few. Clearly other people were far more organised than me and had already emptied the shelves of anything worth having (or indeed seeing).

My day began at Fortnum & Mason where I indulged in tea and revelled in their customer service which never fails to make me feel special; 'would madam like a basket?' - 'thank you. Have a good... afternoon? Easter! Have a good Easter. Have a good everything!'

From Fortnum & Mason I then walked along in the sunshine to Harrods. My route took me via Paul for salmon quiche which I began to eat only once I had passed The Ritz and any concerns about crumb dropping were gone.

Once inside Harrods, I was quite impressed with myself for reaching the foodcourt so efficiently as I usually get utterly and completely lost in the claustrophobic cavern of narrow corridors with no windows to suggest which way is out.

It was a quick turnaround as even with 25% off, Artisan eggs were still £30 so I just grabbed a bottle of Fiji water and was on my way.

Selfridges was my final destination and the walk there was definitely my favourite as most of it involved strolling through the mass of green that is Hyde Park before then wending my way past seriously stunning homes in the streets that run parallel to Oxford Street, offering a slice of peace so surprisingly close to the absolute and complete opposite.

It's been a grey few weeks, or certainly entire days of sunshine have been hard to come by, so I was very glad to have got outside in the warmth.

Today I'm heading on an adventure in the South. Wiggly train writing occuring!

Anna Laurini - Faces

Tonight marked my final university session of the year. I've just got a deadline to meet in May then I'm done until dissertation looms next year and I'm actually incredibly sad that my Masters is flying by so fast! After a speedy (and successful yet terrifying) tutorial (apparently I'm about to fill a gap in the literature...), I made my way to Percy Street in pursuit of Anna Laurini's Faces exhibition.

Recognisable first and foremost for the line drawn (or rather painted) faces popping up all over the streets of London, those on display in the gallery had more colour and depth to them and I loved the way they had been curated. Having set up where a clothes shop stood before, there were pouffes and elegant chairs remaining and the positioning of these actually added quite nicely to the pieces.

No art critic by any means (as I expressed to the artist herself, music is my art, I'm no good at the other stuff), I just think Anna's work is incredibly stylistic and was particularly beautiful with the added detail so I wanted to share some of what I saw. Another postcard from me to you.

Lurking...

One of my favourites. I really loved the book pages collaged to form the background.

Want to admire with your own eyes as opposed to through the lens of my phone? The exhibition is on until this Sunday the 13th at 3 Percy Street, Fitzrovia and it's definitely worth a peruse!

Magical Lantern Festival

For once I was left utterly speechless as this weekend we made a visit to Chiswick House & Gardens for the Magical Lantern Festival; a celebration of Chinese New Year 2016 and the Year of the Monkey.

All there is to be said is that we were both mesmerised and completely blown away by light, illumination, colour, beauty, intricacy and sheer volume. I don't think when I donned a pair of heeled boots (as usual), I was expecting to be taking a two hour garden stroll but there was just so much to see!

So sit back, and admire (I'll even spare you unnecessary captions for each and every one)...

In the words of Samuel Johnson, 'When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life'. Another weekend incredibly well spent.
